WE HIRE ROCKSTARS!

Sq1 is a new kind of agency that blends traditional benefits with an amazing work culture. It is how we have been voted Dallas Business Journal’s Best Places To Work for 2011. We seek out the very best talent coupled with the best personalities and hope that the people who seek us out want to be part of what we are creating — a collective full of diversity, determination, and new ideas.

But as hard as we work, we play even harder. We have breakfast together every Monday because we genuinely like each other. Every Friday is Puppy Friday, where our four-legged friends come to work with us to offer inspiration and wet, slobbery kisses. We’ve also been known to throw theme parties every time we feel like it. So it helps that we have a fully stocked beer cooler as well. In fact, our office has been featured on Mashable.com as a workspace that evokes creativity.

We have built a culture of people who are constantly searching for the right answers. It probably stems from us being located in the old FBI headquarters. We bring lots of diverse elements together, like wood, brick, concrete, art and lighting to create a place that is truly unique and special. Check us out on flickr or instagram.

What We're About

These guys are more than mascots in our office — they are the pillars on which we have built our team,
and describe the character of any new team members:

We are looking for individuals who can face any obstacle. We are not looking for an absence of fear, but an ability to overcome it. Someone who isn’t afraid to try something new, who isn’t afraid to fail and isn’t afraid of taking on the biggest and baddest challenges our industry can throw at them.

Fearless PillararrowThe Hulk is a character ruled by his emotions. When Bruce Banner is angry, stressed or anxious — emotions that can be traced back to fear — he turns into The Hulk. The Hulk’s fearlessness is not a lack of fear, but a conquering of it. He is able to overcome very scary villains with similar strength by channeling his fear and using it to his advantage. It is that conquering of fear that helps Sq1 push for new and original ideas. We fight through the fear of failure in order to deliver greatness.

Do you play chess when others are playing checkers? Do you like to look at the small details of the big picture? Were you the best kid in your neighborhood at Risk, Monopoly and Connect Four? We need individuals who can find short-term and long-term solutions to challenging problems. We are looking for strategic thinkers in every department.

Strategic PillararrowJJ Sefton, the protagonist in the WWII story, Stalag 17, embodies the strategic spirit that allows him to thrive in the most difficult of circumstances. While a prisoner in a German POW camp, he forms strategic alliances with the guards, plays the odds and gathers all pertinent information in order to give himself a more comfortable existence. He’s not a super-soldier, he just sees the angles and plans accordingly. It is this type of thinking that Sq1 tries to use in our problem solving. We collect the data, offer the analysis and work with the right people in order to develop a winning strategy.

We want individuals with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. We want people who not only search for the who, what and where, but the why and how. We are looking for a mix of Woodward, Bernstein, Curious George and a cat with a death wish. We want people who are not afraid to ask questions, because questions lead to answers.

Curious PillararrowHiawatha is a mythical Native American hero whose search for deeper meaning united his tribes and saved his people. He questioned why food has to come from killing other living things, which led to his discovery of farming, saving his people from a great famine. His curiosity about the nature of his world allowed him to shape the legacy of his culture. Sq1 looks for deeper answers in everything we do, never settling for the first, easy answer. We question, we search and we analyze.

We look for people who can be creative, and not just in our creative department. We want people who can take a problem, and not just find the right answer, but several right answers. We want people who look at the world a little differently and can see things that others can’t. Ordinary need not apply.

Creative PillararrowEveryone knows about Spider-Man’s ability to climb walls, shoot webs, spider strength and extra, “Spidey-sense,” that warns him of danger. He has used all of these powers to defeat different enemies. He has, however, had to face enemies where these powers gave him no advantage. In these cases, he used his creativity to defeat the villain. Spider-Man would determine his enemy’s motives and use them to find a way to win. When Sq1 is faced with obstacles that seem impossible to overcome, we rely on what we know of our target and use our creativity to emerge victorious.
